There comes a time in our lives where we undoubtedly ask ourselves whether we can still do, reach, obtain, attain, understand, pursue, appreciate, enjoy certain things that we thought we would never outgrow or swore never to tire of. Sadly, we tend to surrender certain luxuries that used to nourish our souls from within for whatever reason.
The daily rat race drags us away from the gentler things in life, but it is essential that we continue to indulge for as long as we can, lest we become old, cold and bitter. So here is a checklist to assess how much soul time you are giving yourself:
Does your home
- speak to the soul
- nurture your spirit
- provide a haven for creativity
- have a place you can call “sanctuary”
Are you able to do this at least once a day
- Enjoy a sunrise
- Celebrate a sunset
- Savour food without simply gulping it down
- Cherish a flower bud
- Drink your coffee without rushing
- Do a good deed
- Make someone smile
- Pray from your heart
- Do something just for yourself
Can you still
- Find joy in playing with mud or sand
- Dance in the rain
- Smile back at a child
- Be amazed at the generosity of others
- Cry over a romantic movie
- Jump to the music of your youth
- Be spontaneous
- Sigh over clean sheets
“Let us savour the most fleeting delights of our most beautiful days”
– Alphonse de Lamartine (1790-1869) from the book Gratitude Prayers by June Cotner
